DESCRIPTION:
APW - Waltham, Wm Ellery with modifications for clockwatch function, Model 1877, 9-11J, 18S, mounted in a 57mm brass case, skeletonized metal perimeter dial chapter, KWKS with second KW barrel for strike mechanism, gilt mvt, s#1511591. This piece has been extensively modified with the intent to create an hour-striking clockwatch.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, extensively modified for intended clockwatch operation, components appear complete with round wire gong but currently not functioning and it is unclear if it ever did function reliably, currently mvt makes no more than a brief noise of power release when clockwatch function is engaged, overhaul needed for clockwatch function, otherwise fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, some darkening and haze to portions of gilt plates; skeletonized metal dial chapter with some oxide; fair hands with some oxide, hour is bent; case shows light wear, ample uneven tarnish with splotchy darkened areas, no dents or dings; bow pivots freely; good glass crystal.
